Russia Pussy Riots. Desecration of Orthodox Christ the Saviour Cathedral in Moscow.

Christ the Saviour Cathedral in Moscow

Inside the Cathedral, facing the altar

Rambulation disagrees with Amnesty International, the US, the EU, human rights groups and performers Madonna and Stephen Fry over the length of the jail sentences meted out to the Pussy Rioters.

There has been too much pussyfooting around.
It is always wrong to go into any church, mosque or other place of worship and act in the way these women did. They went onto the altar in the Orthodox Christ the Saviour Cathedral in Moscow and in Reuter’s report called on the Virgin Mary to "throw Putin out!"

Lawyer Larisa Pavlova acting for some of the church attendants said the women had jumped on to the ambon "throwing their legs around so that everything below the waist was visible" If so, their behaviour was even more reprehensible. This is desecration of a sacred place. These women were wrong and deserve to be punished. They were making a political protest against Putin, but the sneaking thought comes to mind that they were also seeking publicity.
They were not charged for blasphemy, merely hooliganism motivated by religious hatred.

Putin said on his recent unofficial visit here on 2 August that he hoped the women wouldn’t be treated too harshly.
In the old Russia they really would have been treated harshly.
