Sandra Blow. Kurt Jackson. Breon O'Casey. Jason Wason. Richard Hoare. John Byrne. Ann Oram. David Prentice. Cornwall, Truro: Lemon Street Gallery.

Lemon Street Gallery. 11 August - 1 September 2012

The dazzling white galleries at the Lemon Street Gallery are full of many beautiful landscapes, seascapes, and other interesting paintings, sculptures and ceramics, with Sandra Blow, Kurt Jackson and Richard Hoare among the well-known artists.

Richard Hoare's work is in Gallery 3, and features lovely atmospheric Cornish scenes of Ardevora,- a remote spot in the Roseland by the River Fal, Durgan, St. Just in Roseland, Philleigh Woods, Portscatho and Helford.  He also painted Colonsay  Island in the Scottish Inner Hebrides.

I also liked Edinburgh-based Ann Oram's work, tho' hasten to add she is not a relation, as far as I know. But my husband's family did move from Scotland to Wales...

Lovely outdoor scenes in Herefordshire by David Prentice are here to be enjoyed.

John Byrne's watercolour 'Slightly Yellowish Self-Portrait' draws the attention as soon as you go into the  gallery, and shows the variety of promising and established artists to be seen in this wonderful gallery.

Sandra Blow died aged 80 in 2006. The Guardian obituary put it rather well, she was an 'abstract painter with an earthy touch, she balanced geometric shapes with a ferment of organic forms.' She lived in Rome with her lover the Italian abstract artist Alberto Burri, who obviously influenced her for the good. She later settled in St. Ives.

If you are unable to visit the gallery, the website is extremely well-organised, and the exhibition can be very pleasurably viewed online.
