Cornwall Air Ambulance Fundraising Campaign. Geoff Newman founded the first air ambulance in the UK in Cornwall and should be decorated. Long-term care in Scotland?

  • Australia was the first country to set up a full-time air ambulance service in 1928,  for emergencies in the outback. There was rather a good television series featuring this way back which kept us riveted.
  • Cornwall was the first county in the UK to set up an air ambulance service in 1987, thanks to Geoff Newman, a naval helicopter pilot who was inspired by the German air ambulance service, which started in 1973. Geoff Newman is long due for a  decoration. He has just written a novel  For The Price Of a Hat, available from www.geoffnewman.co.uk. which will be launched today, 5 September 2013 at the Maritime Museum in Falmouth.
  • There are now 27 air ambulance services in the United Kingdom all funded by charities, apart from the Scottish Ambulance Service which is government funded. Scotland has a different system from the rest of the UK and it would be drastic but it may pay to move there if you need long-term care in a home. In the rest of the UK people have to sell their children's inheritances - their homes - to fund this. The government is doing something about it but is taking its time.

Will you help Fund a Flight?
